The day after the funeral of the French volunteer Jean-Michel Nicolier at the Memorial Cemetery in Vukovar - Vukovar defender Zorislav Gašpar was buried.

He was only 20 years old when he was captured and taken to Ovčara in 1991.

Many came today in silence, with Croatian flags and candles, to pay tribute to the young man who was killed while defending his city.

“Today we say goodbye to the Croatian defender who gave his life for the freedom of Croatia, brutally killed at Ovčara at the age of 20. Zorislav Gašpar did not live to see a free and independent Croatia. His mother did not live to bury her son,” said Tomo Medved, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Croatian Defenders.

“His mother died three years ago and did not live to see his bones found. She lost him and her husband Damjan, who has not yet been found,” said Ivan Anđelić "Doctor", a colonel in the Croatian Army.

“Brave, handsome, he was truly the real thing. He followed his heart and fought for Croatia,” said Nikola Margarin, a comrade.
