The Vjesnik building in Zagreb is awaiting demolition after a fire gutted the 16-storey structure last month, leaving it unsafe.
The government has invited contractors to submit proposals for its removal.
Construction Minister Branko Bačić said 18 bids have been received, most proposing mechanical demolition, while fewer suggest a controlled implosion. The offers range from €1.8 million to €5.5 million, with projected timelines of one to 12 months.
Bačić said the proposals will be evaluated based on price, deadlines and safety, with a decision expected by January 15. The building stands near residential and commercial properties, as well as one of Zagreb’s busiest intersections.
Experts have been monitoring the structure since the fire and, according to government officials, it remains stable.
