Four Austrian citizens killed in plane crash near Medulin

The plane that killed four Austrian citizens on Thursday crashed two to three kilometers southwest of Medulin Airport, the Agency for the Investigation of Accidents in Air, Sea and Rail Transport (AIN) reported on Friday morning.

The crash involved a Beechcraft G36 Bonanza aircraft with German registration D-ENTT that occurred on Thursday at around 11:18 near Medulin Airport.


The plane took off from Lienz - Nikolsdorf Airport (LOKL) for Medulin Airport.


AIN reported that it was immediately informed of the incident by the Operational and Communication Center of the Ministry of the Interior and Croatian Air Traffic Control.


"Immediately after receiving the report of the incident, the Agency's aircraft accident investigators went to the scene of the accident to conduct an on-site investigation," they stated on their website.


They noted that they are launching a safety investigation into the accident in accordance with the provisions of the Regulation (EU) governing investigations in civil aviation. Once the safety investigation is completed, its results will be publicly published on the website of the Agency for the Investigation of Accidents in Air, Maritime and Rail Transport in the form of a final accident report, the Agency stated.


The circumstances of the plane crash are being determined


The Pula County State Attorney's Office reported after the investigation of the scene that four Austrian citizens born in 1978, 1968, 1986 and 1961 died when the plane hit the ground on Thursday in the Medulin Municipality.


An examination and autopsy of the bodies of the deceased have been ordered, and further measures and actions are being taken to determine all relevant circumstances of the event, the prosecutor's office stated.


The investigation was conducted by police officers from the Istrian police with the participation of investigators from the Agency for the Investigation of Accidents in Air, Maritime and Railway Transport and the deputy county state attorney on duty in Pula.


It was previously determined that the aircraft that crashed in the Medulin area on Thursday morning was registered in Germany and was flying from Linz in Austria to Medulin.
