The remains of two men listed as missing from the Homeland War from the Vukovar area have been identified. Both were civilians whose remains were exhumed in 1999 in eastern Croatia.

One of the victims that was identified on Tuesday was Pero Krželj from Vukovar. Krželj was 68 when he was taken by Serb forces. Two of his relatives Barbara Jurkić and Anđa Komorčec were on hand for the identification.

"They came into his house and took most likely to Velepromet and then to the mass grave where his remains were found," Jurkić said.

Anđa Komorčec added: "The used him to make coffins and bury people. He was alive while they needed him. When they no longer needed him they murdered him."

Deputy Prime Minister and Veterans' Affairs Minister Tomo Medved reminded today that Croatia continues to search for another 1 792 persons missing from the Serbian aggression of the 1990's, and that the Croatian government will continue to work tirelessly until each missing person is found: "Given that a few weeks ago we found the mortal remains of at least ten people near Vukovar, the Institute for Forensic Medicine in Zagreb has made their processing a priority. So, I believe that in the coming weeks we will see the identification of a larger number of missing persons from the Vukovar area."
