Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ) Director Kristjan Staničić says this year's tourist season is unfolding as expected, despite a slight decline in visitor numbers during June.

Speaking after a coordination meeting with tourism officials in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, Staničić attributed the weaker June figures to conditions in Croatia's key source markets, as well as the timing of public holidays and school breaks.

According to the latest eVisitor data, tourist traffic during the first half of July is in line with the same period last year.

Staničić noted that May recorded stronger results than in 2025, while June was weaker, the opposite pattern to last year. Given that 2025 delivered a record pre-season, he said matching those overall results this year should be viewed as a positive outcome.

He also dismissed suggestions that Croatian tourism is entering a period of stagnation, saying the industry's priority is to reduce seasonality by extending the tourist season.

That, he said, will be achieved through continued investment in hotel accommodation, the development of new attractions and facilities, and the promotion of specialised forms of tourism, including health and congress tourism.
