Construction of the long-awaited National Children’s Hospital in Zagreb is set to begin next year, following the government’s approval of a draft proposal for the public procurement contract covering the planning and construction of the hospital complex in Blato, on the outskirts of the capital.
The project, valued at €237 million, will be carried out by a consortium of Croatian construction firms, the government announced on Thursday.
“The construction of the new National Children’s Hospital will ensure children have access to modern medical care and accommodations at the highest level. The existing children’s hospitals and pediatric departments in Zagreb will be merged into this new facility,” said Health Minister Irena Hrstić during the cabinet meeting.
According to the plan, phase one of the hospital’s construction is expected to be completed by 2029.
The new hospital will bring together pediatric services currently dispersed across several locations in Zagreb, creating a modern, centralized institution equipped to provide advanced medical treatment and research in child healthcare.
