The 34th anniversary of the death of Croatian Radio and Television cameraman Gordan Lederer was commemorated on Monday at the "Broken Landscape" memorial on the Čukur hill above Hrvatska Kostajnica.
"What is especially important to me is that we do not forget the memories not only of Gordan, but also of all Croatian veterans and all journalists and cameramen who gave their lives," said his widow Ana Lederer.
She said that cameramen, like Gordan, were on the ground with Croatian defenders in 1991 with the only weapons they had at the time: their cameras.
"The enemy was not only afraid of our weapons and the Croatian Army, they were afraid of our cameras and afraid of the truth," added HRT Assistant Director General Renato Kunić.
Killing Lederer, said Kunić, was an attempt at keeping the truth about the Homeland War hidden.
Gordan Lederer was killed on the Čukur Hill on August 10, 1991, while on assignment. He was hit by a bullet from an enemy sniper while filming the actions of Croatian defenders during the Serbian attacks on Pounje.
Lederer sadly succumbed to his wounds while in transit to the capital city.
