Tomašević: Stadium in Kranjčevićeva to be completed by September 2026

The existing stadium in Kranjčevićeva Street in Zagreb is the home stadium of the Zagreb Football Club. However the old, dilapidated structure has long been needing an overhaul. According to Zagreb authorities, its renovation will precede any works on Maksimir Stadium, the home of the Dinamo Football Club.

Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević presented the project for the building of a new stadium in Kranjčevićeva Street in the capital on Friday, which, as he announced, should be completed by September 2026 and will cost around €44 million. The mayor said that its construction is a prerequisite for the construction of a new stadium in Maksimir.

According to the mayor construction works should begin in March next year: "The project for the stadium in Kranjčevićeva was made based on the reconstruction of the existing stadium, although it will be largely a new stadium. We did this in order to complete the project as quickly as possible, because the faster the construction of the stadium in Kranjčevićeva is completed the faster the construction of the new stadium in Maksimir can begin."

The mayor went on to say that the works on the stadium in Kranjčevićeva will be financed from the city budget, adding that after its completion Dinamo and the Croatian national football team will be able to play there until the new venue in Maksimir is built.

"What was also important to us was that the new stadium meets the highest category, the fourth UEFA category, which means that Champions League, Europa League, Conference League matches can be played at that stadium and in that sense Dinamo will play there as soon as it is built, but also various other UEFA matches when we talk about the Croatian national football team," Tomašević concluded.
