Sanata Clara beats Varaždin, dashing Croatian team’s Conference League hopes

Varaždin’s hopes of playing European football this fall were dashed by Santa Clara, who won the second leg of their tie on Thursday evening 2:0.

After Varaždin surprised the Portuguese side 2-1 at home last week, Santa Clara prevailed at the Estádio de São Miguel in Ponta Delgada 2: nil.

The Portuguese team scored once in each half to make up for the deficit from the first leg. The scorers were Vinicius Lopes in the fifth minute and Gabriel Silva in the 68th minute.
