Prime Minister Andrej Plenković today announced a gradual exit from the package of measures to help citizens due to positive trends in inflation.
The Croatian Bureau of Statistics announced on Tuesday that consumer prices in Croatia in August were 4.1 percent higher than in the same month last year, which is the same as in July, which interrupted the three-month trend of accelerating inflation on an annual basis. Eurostat data shows that inflation in Croatia in August was also among the highest in the Eurozone.
In his address at the beginning of the Government session, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said that the data on the halted acceleration of inflation is good.
“Therefore, we believe that this rate will decrease from month to month, and in parallel with that, in the context of the highest employment and lowest unemployment, we will continue to work on further preparing a package of measures that would be primarily aimed this autumn at those who are most vulnerable at the European Union level,” he said.
“The main political and economic line after many years of subsidies is to gradually exit the package of measures, and we will make decisions in the appropriate consultation process with our social partners and all interested parties during September,” Plenković added.
The total value of all government aid packages to citizens and the economy to date has exceeded eight billion euros.
Speaking about this morning's meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, Plenković said that Croatia supports the efforts of international actors to end the Russian aggression against Ukraine, for peace efforts and to provide Ukraine with security guarantees in order to achieve peace and protect its sovereignty.
“And we are especially providing additional support to Ukraine on its European path and continuing to provide bilateral assistance,” he added.
He also pointed out that they expressed their condolences to the Portuguese government today on the occasion of yesterday's terrible funicular accident in Lisbon, in which 17 people died.
Plenković also referred to yesterday's press conference at which data on the first eight months of the tourism balance were presented.
“So far, there have been two percent more arrivals and half a percent more overnight stays than last year. In the pre-season, the results were even better than in 2024. There are positive expectations for the continuation of this post-season, he said.
He added that he believes that "the entire tourism sector, in the broader context of global economic, tourism, and security developments, will take into account preparations for 2026, the main aspects of improving quality and, of course, the pricing policy that significantly influences the decision-making of numerous Europeans and tourists from other countries".
New round of Treasury bill subscriptions begins on Monday
Speaking of treasury bills, he said that the bills will be offered for a period of three months. "Subscription starts on Monday, September 8, and the yield is 2.6 percent," announced Plenković, and asserted that all previous issues of national treasury bills and bonds have boosted the capital market.
The total value of all government aid packages to citizens and the economy to date has exceeded eight billion euros.
