The King and Queen of Spain are in Croatia for an official visit this week that coincides with the 30th anniversary of relations between the two countries.

King Philip VI and Queen Letizia are being hosted by President Zoran Milanović and First Lady Sanja Musić Milanović. It is the first state visit by the King and Queen since Croatia's independence.

After a ceremonial reception at the Presidential Residence in Pantovčak, the President Milanović the First Lady spoke with the King and Queen. The two heads of state said they were satisfied with bilateral relations between Croatia and Spain, underscoring the two were friendly and allied countries, EU members and NATO allies, a statement said.

In a separate meeting, the First Lady and Queen Letizia discussed innovative approaches to obesity prevention in children in Croatia, Spain and the entire continent.

They will be attending a state dinner at the President’s Office this evening.

On Thursday, representatives of the two countries will sign the outline of an agreement under which Croatian and Spanish scientists will work together on a project seeking to create the EU's first demonstration fusion power plant in Granada.

King Philip will meet with Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and Speaker Gordan Jandroković on Thursday, while the First Lady and the Queen will visit Zagreb's speech and hearing clinic SUVAG.
