The second volume of *Rescued from Oblivion – Our Doctors*, authored by Marko Sente, MD, a respected Subotica physician and Croatian Catholic community activist, has been presented in Subotica. The book features the biographies of 21 doctors, most of them Bunjevac Croats, whose professional contributions helped shape the medical and social history of the city and its surrounding area.
The publication continues Sente's research project, which aims to preserve the memory of prominent doctors of Croatian descent who worked in the region but whose lives and professional achievements have gradually faded from wider historical awareness.
“I Did It Out of Spite”
“Since the 2009 monograph on doctors from Vojvodina's national minorities did not include the Croatian minority, I decided to start collecting the biographies of Croatian doctors born in Subotica, as well as those who had moved to the city,” Sente said.
The first volume of *Our Doctors* was published in 2022 and featured 22 biographies. A year later, Sente published another book, *Rescued from Oblivion – The Palić Medical Clinic*. All three books were published by the Subotica branch of Matica hrvatska, the Croatian cultural institution.
Sente Among the Founders of the Bunjevac Song Festival
Dr Sente is also well known for his involvement in the cultural and religious life of Subotica's Croatian community. He is one of the founders of the Bunjevac Song Festival and is actively involved in the life of the Diocese of Subotica.
His work documenting the lives of doctors of Croatian descent is part of his broader commitment to preserving the cultural, historical and spiritual identity of Croatians in Vojvodina.
