This morning, the USA and Israel attacked Iran in a joint operation, which retaliated with attacks on Israel and on American bases in the countries of the Persian Gulf. Explosions reverberated in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, where one person died. There are also wounded people in Israel.

There are about ten Croatian citizens in Iran, who, as Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman said, have not yet requested consular assistance.

“From the very beginning we appealed to Croatian citizens not to travel to crisis hotspots, we evacuated practically the entire embassy and ambassador; there is currently one staffer there that is secured administrative and logistic functioning. We have communication and contact with him although it is all difficult. Last summer there were about 20 citizens and now it is much less. No one has yet requested consular assistance. Three football players are there and according to our information there is a total of about 10 citizens,” said the Foreign Minister.

Croatian ambassador Vesela Mrđen Korač spoke exclusively for Croatian Television from Tel Aviv about the situation in Israel.

“This morning at 8:00 a.m. or 8:13 to be precise, sirens sounded throughout Israel, all flights are cancelled and the airport is closed and will remain closed. This conflict will definitely last a few days. Of the land borders only those towards Egypt are open; however it is not now possible to travel through Israel to the Egyptian border. So at this moment, Croatian citizens that are caught here must remain and stay in shelters until a possibility opens for a safer exit,” said Ambassador Mrđen Korač.
