Croatia has won two bronze medals, for the best destination in the Mediterranean and for the best cruise destination in Europe, at the prestigious Travvy Awards, often called the Oscars of the tourism industry, reported the Croatian Tourist Board (HTZ) on Friday.
The awards were presented last night at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, based on votes from travel agents and tourism professionals from North America, which is why they represent one of the most important awards in global tourism.
In addition to the awards won, Croatia was also nominated in the category of the best European tourist board.
The awards were received by Paula Carreiro, an associate of the HTZ Representative Office in New York.
The HTZ emphasizes that the awards come after another successful year for Croatian tourism on the American market. Namely, Americans recorded 829 thousand arrivals and 2.3 million overnight stays in Croatia during the first ten months, which represents a ten percent increase in arrivals and overnight stays compared to last year.
Croatia's growing attractiveness on the American market has been further boosted by new and existing airline routes, including the new direct United Airlines route from New York/Newark to Split, in addition to existing flights to Dubrovnik and direct Air Transat flights from Toronto to Zagreb, the Croatian Tourism Board notes.
“These prestigious awards are yet another confirmation of Croatia's exceptional international reputation, but also the result of the continuous work of all stakeholders in Croatian tourism. We are particularly pleased that the awards came from the US market, which is showing increasing interest and trust in Croatia as a safe, authentic and attractive destination. Successes like this are a strong incentive to further improve the quality and sustainability of our tourism offer. We would like to thank our partners and travel professionals who have recognized the value of Croatia as a tourist destination with their votes,” said the Director of the Croatian Tourism Board, Kristjan Staničić.
“We are extremely honored that Croatia has been recognized once again at the Travvy Awards. These awards reflect the dedicated work of our tourism partners and the growing interest of American travelers who are discovering the magic of Croatia, from its historic cities and islands to its superb gastronomy and rich cultural heritage,” said Leila Krešić-Jurić, Director of the Croatian Tourist Board's North American Representative Office.
