The Tax Administration has begun the process of ratifying the agreements between Croatia and Australia and Croatia and New Zealand on the elimination of double taxation of income taxes and the prevention of tax evasion and tax avoidance, the Ministry of Finance reported on Tuesday, adding that the agreements could begin to be applied from the beginning of next year.
The issue of avoiding double taxation between Croatia and these two countries has not been resolved so far, and the procedures have been initiated in order to encourage increased economic cooperation between them, the statement added.
Negotiations for the conclusion of the agreement with Australia were held during 2024 and it was signed in Canberra on 24 November 2025, while negotiations for the conclusion of the agreement with New Zealand were held during 2025, and the agreement was signed in Wellington on 20 November 2025.
After Croatia confirms the agreements with Australia and New Zealand, it will notify both countries thereof, and if these countries confirm the agreements with Croatia in their parliaments and notify Croatia thereof by the end of 2026, the agreements will be applied from 1 January 2027.
The Tax Law also states that these agreements will achieve numerous reliefs in the taxation of all types of income, as well as improving the conditions for increasing the mutual exchange of goods and services and increasing the level of overall economic activity between the Republic of Croatia and both countries.
