During an official visit to Zadar County, Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković confirmed that President Zoran Milanović has submitted a list of candidates for the position of Supreme Court President.

The position has been vacant since early March, following the death of former Supreme Court President Radovan Dobronić. So far, three public tenders have been issued in efforts to appoint a successor.

"According to information from the parliament service, the president has sent his proposals to the Judiciary Committee and - I assume - to the Supreme Court as well," Jandroković said.

"Next, the Judiciary Committee and the Supreme Court will provide the president with their opinions on the proposed candidates. After that, the president will pick his preferred candidate, who will then be forwarded to a plenary session of parliament for approval," he added.

Jandroković's statement confirms that the appointment process is moving forward after months of procedural delays. Once the parliamentary committee and the Supreme Court provide their formal opinions, the president’s chosen nominee will require a two-thirds majority in parliament before they can take office.

Speaking in his capacity as a senior member of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), Jandroković commented on the government’s ongoing efforts to manage inflation while sustaining economic growth.

"We are aware that inflation is one of the biggest problems we are facing,” he said. “At the same time, Croatia has recorded some of the highest GDP growth in the entire EU. We have seen strong growth in wages, pensions, and consumption. This has resulted in a slightly higher inflation rate, which primarily affects lower-income families and pensioners."

"However, we need to maintain economic growth, as well as high wages and pensions, while taking care of those in need through various social measures in order to ensure dignified living conditions," he continued.

According to Jandroković, balancing economic expansion with social support measures remains one of the government’s key priorities heading into 2026.
