A nationwide manhunt is underway for 50-year-old Kristijan Aleksić, who is suspected of murdering a 19-year-old food delivery driver in Drniš.

The killing took place on Friday at around 11:05 p.m., after which police launched an extensive search involving all available officers and equipment. Authorities have warned the public not to approach the suspect, who is considered armed and dangerous, and are urging citizens to contact police immediately with any information or sightings.

"This is a big shock for our city, which is usually very peaceful. We all know each other, so such a terrible event is understandably very upsetting for everyone. I offer my sincere condolences to the family. The victim was a member of the local basketball team. He was an athlete, a young promising man. This is a great loss for our city," said a visibly shaken Mayor Tomislav Dželalija.

Local resident Marin Ivić described the victim as "a young man in his prime: calm, cultured, and good-natured."

"It was the weekend, but he didn't go out to party - he was trying to earn a living," Ivić added.

Police say Aleksić was already known to authorities. Three years ago, he was reported for illegal possession of weapons and explosives. He had also previously been convicted of murder in the mid-1990s, when he killed a young woman from the neighborhood. He served a 12-year prison sentence for the crime and underwent mandatory psychiatric treatment.

According to some residents of Drniš, Aleksić allegedly made repeated threats after his release, claiming he would kill again.
