Habijan: Enough, this is scandalous!

Justice Minister Damir Habijan commented ahead of the HDZ Presidency session on information that Kristijan Aleksić, suspected of the murder of a 19-year-old in Drniš, has not had a single hearing scheduled for a previous criminal offense in two and a half years.

Minister Damir Habijan expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the murdered young man, emphasizing that he had ordered extraordinary supervision of the work of the Municipal Court in Šibenik and the Municipal State Attorney's Office.

“I expect the supervision to be completed by the end of the week and, depending on the results, if the facts that have been stated - that not a single hearing has been scheduled in two and a half years - are revealed, disciplinary proceedings will be initiated before the State Judicial Council and the State Attorney's Council,” he said.

“As a minister, I am shocked by such things, especially the explanation I had the opportunity to see in the media where it is stated that this is not an urgent procedure, which is scandalous, considering that this was a person who had previously been convicted of aggravated murder,” he pointed out, adding that there are other criminal and misdemeanor offenses for which Aleksić was responsible.

He emphasized that as a minister and part of the executive branch - he refrains from interfering in the work of judicial bodies, but this case deserves a reaction.

“Enough has happened and I think that as a minister I want to send a very clear message that we have set a normative framework - from 40 to 50 years of imprisonment for the most serious criminal offenses – and it is up to judicial officials to use these tools,” he said.
