Ex-husband is implicated in murder of couple in Markuševec

More details are emerging in the investigation of a double murder in Zagreb's Markuševac neighborhood on June 13, when a 30-year-old woman and her 38-year-old partner were shot and killed in the garage of residential building.

Police reported on Tuesday that the murdered woman’s ex-husband was arrested. The 36-year-old man is suspected him hiring a 29-year-old man to kill his ex-wife and her partner. Another man, arrested along with the suspected gunman last week is believed to have assisted the shooter.

The ex-husband allegedly hired the suspected gunman, a Croatian soldier and member of the elite honor guard battalion that guards the President’s Office, to murder his former wife and new partner.

The three men appear to have known each other for some time, sharing the same passion for fast cars and motorbikes.

The ex-husband allegedly paid the soldier around 20 thousand euros - partly in sport car and motorbike parts – to carry out the hit.

Unofficially, investigators have discovered that the trio arranged the murder in person but also via a gaming app, because all three were enthusiastic gamers.

The key turn in the investigation occurred on Monday when one of the men arrested changed his original statement, linking the ex-husband to the murder and leading to his arrest on Tuesday. Police searched the home and cars of the ex-husband and questioned him. Today, he was questioned by prosecutors at the County State Attorney's Office.

Sources close to the investigation say he has denied the allegations, but the investigators did not believe him and asked the County Court to keep him in custody.
