Due to the transfer of data from the old system to a new one the Central Health Information System will be off-line until Monday at noon. This means that over the weekend referrals and prescriptions will be issued on paper.

Family doctor Vjekoslava Amerl Šakić says she is somewhat confused as to why the data transfer requires the entire system to be down for a full three days: "If the system has to be down for three days then it's best that it happen over the weekend. In the past twenty-four months we've had the system go down for two or three days mid-week, and that was truly catastrophic. It surprises me that the IT people can't switch servers overnight, when the load on the system is lower. A lot could be done between 9 PM and 6 AM."

For her part and pharmacist Nika Perković believes the entire ordeal will pass without any major disruptions: "We're ready. This was announced in advance. General practitioners are also prepared. In the vent that some family doctors isn't working replacements have been organized, so that patients can go see a replacement doctor and get a prescription at any time. So I think that everything will be OK."

Meanwhile, the new Da Vinci robotic surgical system was presented at the Zagreb University Hospital Center (KBC Zagreb) today. Valued at almost €4.3 million, the system will provide surgeons with better insight and greater precision, which should result in faster recovery times for patients. The head of the Urology Clinic at Zagreb University Hospital Center Dr. Željko Kaštelan: "The lead surgeon now only needs one surgical assistant, while the old robot system required two surgical assistants. Obviously the fourth generation Da Vinci is the cutting edge in technology, and allows for work in other specializations. This was very important for us, as it allows all branches of surgery for which the robot system is certified to work with this system."

"Why is robotic surgery important? Because it is more precise, it accelerates patient recovery times and reduces their stay in hospital, and this provides corresponding material benefits," added the director of the Zagreb University Hospital Center, Dr. Ante Ćorušić.
