Croatian Heritage Foundation Presents Vinko Grubišić’s “Emigrant Letters”

The Croatian Heritage Foundation has presented Emigrant Letters, a memoir by Prof. Vinko Grubišić, PhD, offering previously unknown insights into the lives and work of prominent Croatian linguists and writers who, like Grubišić, worked abroad as part of the Croatian cultural emigration in the second half of the 20th century.

Spanning nearly 180 pages, the book sheds light on the experiences of Croatian intellectuals and cultural figures abroad, drawing on Grubišić’s own experiences and memories.

The book presentation was held as part of this year’s European Heritage Days, focusing on new interpretations of the philological heritage of Croatian cultural emigration in the second half of the 20th century.

The event opened with remarks by Croatian Heritage Foundation Director Zdeslav Milas, M.Sc. Among those attending were editor Associate Professor Renata Burai, PhD; academician Ratko Cvetnić; and the book’s author, Prof. Vinko Grubišić, PhD. The event was moderated by Vesna Kukavica, M.Sc., head of the Foundation’s Publishing Department.

About the Author

Vinko Grubišić is a philologist, writer, anthologist and translator who has established himself as a professor in the Department of Croatian Language and Culture at the University of Waterloo in Canada.

He has also worked as a methodologist and authored textbooks, dictionaries and workbooks on Croatian language and culture for the Croatian Schools of America and Canada.

Grubišić writes and translates poetry, prose and drama into several languages and has published scholarly works in the field of Croatian linguistics. He is a corresponding member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts and has received several professional awards in Croatia and abroad.
