Zubčić wins giant slalom in Bulgaria

Croatian Alpine skier Filip Zubčić on Sunday won the FIS World Cup giant slalom race in Bansko, Bulgaria, with a time of 2:20.62.

Mathieu Faivre of France finished second with a time of 2:21.02, while Austrian Stefan Brennsteiner was third with a time of 2:21.55.

Saturday's win marks the 3rd career victory for the 28-year-old who has two wins and five podium finishes so far this season.

"It was really a beautiful day here in Bansko. The weather was great and the result was too. My team and I are really happy and proud that I was able to secure my third career victory. The race itself was tough. The runs were hard, bumpy and icy. It was a battle from start to finish," said Zubčić following the win.

Zubčić has jumped to second place in the giant slalom rankings with 468 points, while Alexis Pinturault of France is first with 22 more points. Marco Odermatt of Switzerland is third with 445 points.

Pinturault tops the overall rankings with 974 points, followed by Odermatt with 744 points while Marco Schwarz of Austria is third with 692 points.

Zubčić has moved up four places in the overall rankings as well and is now sixth with 584 points.
