Sébastien Ogier claimed victory at the Croatia Rally on Saturday, beating out Toyota team-mate Elfyn Evans and Hyundai’s Thierry Neuville.

The world champion edged out Evans to win the three-day World Rally Championship by 0.6 seconds. In a breathtaking last-minute reversal, Evans, who had a 3.9 second lead over the Frenchman, made a mistake in the final turn, costing him the race by less than a second. Ogier cruised across the finish to log his 51st career victory. Neuville finished third in his Hyundai i20, 7.5 seconds behind Ogier.

“It’s been a crazy rollercoaster for us between the puncture and the issue this morning. I was glad to be still in the rally honestly. I guess that’s why we do this sport, for this emotion,” Ogier said.

Ogier had a 6.7 second lead going into the final day despite a tire puncture on Friday.  He also was involved in a road traffic collision en route to the opening speed test that damaged his vehicle.

FIA president Sebastien Todt had nothing but praise for the Croatian organizers of the event.

"This is a historic moment. We are celebrating the 115 anniversary of the Croatian Automobile and Carting Federation and the first WRC in Croatia. It's a great combination. The atmosphere is great, fantastic support from the promoters, from the city of Zagreb. We are very happy to be here,” said Todt.
