Croatia's Donna Vekić is through to the finals of the WTA tournament in Monterrey Mexico after beating Lin Zhu of China, 7:5, 6:2, late last night. She plays Caroline Garcia of France for the title.
In one hour and thirty minutes of play the 26 year-old Osijek native, who is currently ranked 31st on the WTA list, served up four aces in the match, never lost her serve, and broke her opponent’s serve a total of four times. This was their second head-to-head meeting, and the second win for Vekić.
In his first final this year, Vekić will be looking to score her 4th career WTA title against Garcia, who is the tournament’s number one seed and the fifth ranked tennis player in the world, who advanced to the final after disposing of Elise Mertens of Belgium, 6:3, 6:4. Vekić has a slight lead in their previous nine meetings, having won five matches, the last time being at the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2021. This is Garcia’s second final this season, having secured 11 career WTA titles.
