After winning every title there was to win in the Coxless Pair discipline, the Zagreb natives switched to the Double Sculls. The Sinković brothers were the first men's double sculls team to go under six minutes for their race time.
At the first World Rowing Cup regatta on Zagreb's Jarun Lake, brothers Martin and Valent Sinković took the gold medal in the final of the Men's Double Sculls today. They finished ahead of the Spanish and Serbian rowers. For Valent it was especially important to win at home: "This is something special. This win will definitely remain in our hearts for the rest of our lives. We heard the cheers so much so in the last 500 meters that we decided to up the tempo in the last 200 meters for the fans. But we had the race from beginning to end. And all the work we've done over the last half a year has truly paid off."
Brother Martin said that they had the race in hand from the outset: "We knew that the Spaniards would be faster than they were in the qualifications, and they held their ground for the first 500 meters, but then they ran out of steam. We maintained the rhythm we wanted, and upped the tempo at the finish as we agreed to. So it all went perfectly. Thanks to everyone who came out."
Meanwhile, in the Men's Pair event brothers Patrik and Anton Lončarić took fourth place in the final, finishing behind the Swiss, Spanish and Danish teams. In women's action, sisters Ivana and Josipa Jurković took the bronze medal in the Women's Pair discipline behind the Spanish and Czech boats.
