A Fantastic success for Petra Marčinko in Melbourne! The 16-year-old Croatian tennis player won the title of junior Australian Open winner.

The world's top junior defeated Belgium's Sofia Costoulas in the final in Melbourne by a score of 7: 5, 6: 1. This was her 12th consecutive win, combining titles at the Orange Bowl and the Australian Open.

The young woman from Zagreb became the fourth Croatian to succeed after Mirjana Lučić (1997), Jelena Kostanić (1998) and Ana Konjuh in 2013. She also broke the Croatian fast in winning junior Grand Slams, the last time before a junior Grand Slam was won before her was by Borna Ćorić and Ana Konjuh at the US Open in 2013.

The Croatian tennis player was the first to gain an advantage in the match, and at 1: 1 she broke the serve of her opponent for the first time. However, Costoulas retaliated quickly and took three games at 1-3 and established a balance in the match. But the next break Petra Marčinko had was crucial. It happened at 5: 5, after which the Croatian tennis player served for the first set.

Such an end to the first set affected both tennis players, and Marčinko opened the second set with two breaks, escaping to 4: 0 and resolving the match.

In the duel, Marčinko won almost 20 points more than her rival (68-49), and she also had twice as many direct points (22-11). She took advantage of 5 of 7 break points, while the young Belgian tennis player had three such opportunities and took advantage of one break point.
