Martić through to quarterfinals in Rome

The Croatian tennis player is just coming off a major slump that saw here make first exists in four consecutive tournaments.

Petra Martić is through to the quarter-finals of the WTA tournament in Rome, after beating Argentina's Nadia Podoroska 3:6, 6:1, 6:2, on Thursday. After losing the first set Martić asserted her style of play, twice breaking her opponents serve. She would continue this trend in the third and deciding set, breaking Podoroska’s serve three times. Martić will play American Jessica Pegula (WTA - 31) next for a place in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, in the men's doubles draw in Rome, Nikola Mektić and Mate Pavić are also through to the quarter-finals, after registering a 7:6, 7:6, win over the New Zealand Austrian team of Marcus Daniell and Philipp Oswald. They will play the French duo of Adrian Mannarino and Benoit Paire for a place in the semi-finals.

Ivan Dodig and Slovakia’s Filip Polášek fell short of the quarter-finals after losing to Australian John Peers and New Zealand’s Michael Venus, 6:1, 7:6.
