Gojo and Vekić fall short of the 3rd round at the French Open

The second grand slam of the tennis season, the French Open, continued in Paris on Wednesday, with two Croatian’s making second round exits.

Croatia’s Borna Gojo failed to qualify for the third round of Roland Garros after losing to Serbian Filip Krajinović in three hours of play in the second round 7:6 (5), 6:2, 5:7, 6:1. After successfully qualifying for a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in his career and notching his first win in the first round of one of the four biggest tournaments, the 24-year-old from Split came up short against the 30-year-old from Sombor, who is ranked a full 168 positions ahead of Gojo on the ATP list, as on the eve of Roland Garros Gojo was 223rd overall, and Krajinović 55th in the world.

Also in Paris, in the women's singles draw Croatia's Donna Vekić fell short of the third round of play after losing to the tournament's 27th seed, American Amanda Anisimova, 6:4, 6:1, on Wednesday.
