The Croatian national football team will continue using the seaside resort town of Rovinj as their base in preparation for and during the 2020 European Championships.

The domestic football federation (HNS) was urged by governing body UEFA to find an alternative to staying at St Andrews in Scotland, which was the original plan, due to concerns over coronavirus lockdown measures. Scottish rules would mean the entire team could be subject to quarantine if even a single player were to test positive.

"I think that in these circumstances, this is the best possible decision for the national team," said head coach Zlatko Dalić.

"We know that we will have excellent conditions, top-quality accommodation and a quality pitch, and we cannot get that elsewhere in such a short time. We will do our best to have our peace which is also needed, and on the other hand, the support of our people can only give us extra energy. Given the whole situation with the pandemic, this is the best outcome. We have a unique opportunity to remain in our country for the majority of the championships," he said.

Croatia plays their opening match at the European Championships against England on 11 June at London's Wembley stadium.

Croatia is in group D together with England, Scotland, and the Czech Republic.
