The Croatian national football team started its campaign in Group D at the Euro with a 1:0 defeat to England at Wembley. The only goal scorer was Raheem Sterling in the 57th minute.

Against one of the favorites of the entire competition, Croatia was in a subordinate position during the match. The English midfield imposed itself on Croatia and moved the focus of the game to the half of the field that belonged to our players, so in the first half hour the ball was in possession of the English players almost 70 percent of the time.

Croatia, as in the "dress rehearsal" a week ago against Belgium, looked idealess in the forward game, while against a very good opponent it could not keep its net untouched.

This is the first time that Croatia started its campaign at the Euro with a defeat; in 1996, 2008, 2012 and 2016 it won in its first match while in 2004 it drew. England, on the other hand, started the Euro for the first time with a victory.

The match was played at the Wembley Stadium in front of 22,500 spectators, and the referee was Italian Daniele Orsato.

It was the 11th match between the Vatreni and Gordog Albion, England celebrated six times, Croatia three times, and two matches ended without a winner.

In the second match of this group, Scotland and the Czech Republic will compete in Glasgow on Monday.

The Vatreni are expected to play against the Czech Republic in the second round on June 18 in Glasgow, while England and Scotland will meet in London. The last round is scheduled for June 22, when Croatia plays Scotland in Glasgow, while the Czech Republic and England meet in London.
