At the 2022 World Cup underway in Qatar, the Croatian national football team beat Group "F" rivals Canada, 4:1, on Sunday. Earlier in the day, in the other Group "F" game Morocco beat Belgium 2:nil.

Canada took the lead with a goal from Alphonso Davies in the second minute of play. Croatia then gathered itself and grabbed the reigns. Andrej Kramarić scored twice for Croatia, in the 36th and 70th minutes of play. Marko Livaja added the key go-ahead goal in the 44th minute of play, while Lovro Majer capped the win with a goal in the 4th minute of extra time.

The early shock in the second minute came from an excellent center from Tajon Buchanan, with Alphonso Davies running onto the ball and heading the ball into the Croatian net in front of defender Josip Juranović. Croatia looked to equalize in the 26th minute with Kramarić pushing the ball into the net, however the goal was disallowed due to offside by Livaja.

However, the aforementioned duo kicked-off the turnaround by the end of the first half. It started with Kramarić tying the score off of a deft assist from Ivan Perišić. This was followed by a goal from Livaja, following an excellent shot from the top of the penalty box.

Croatia’s all-out attack somewhat subsided at the beginning of the second half, with Canada threatened in the early minutes. This was countered by an excellent chance by Kramarić in the 54th minute.

Then the game then settled somewhat until the 70th minute, when the Perišić - Kramarić connection produced results once again. By the end of the match, Croatia was drawing ever closer to a fourth goal with chances by Perišić and Marcelo Brozović. Youngster Lovro Mayer wrapped the game up with a 4th Croatian goal in the 94th minute of play.

After two rounds of play Croatia is first in the group with four points. Morocco is second, also with 4 points, but Croatia has a better goals for and against tally. Belgium is third with three points, while Canada is last in the group, yet to register a point.

Croatia will play its last game of the group stage against Belgium on Thursday. Opening kick-off is at 4 PM Central European Time in Ahmed bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan. In the other Group "F" game on Thursday, Canada will play Morocco.
