Croatia played to a 1:1 draw with Slovenia on Saturday in the first of two international friendlies in Qatar, ahead of the 2022 World Cup in November.

Slovenia's Jaka Bijol scored his first international goal with just seconds left in the game to equalize Andrej Kramarić first-half strike for Croatia.

“We dominated the match, had possession of the ball. Maybe we didn’t have opportunities (to score) and perhaps we should have turned over more quickly but I am satisfied,” said Dalić.

Both teams were part of the same World Cup qualifying group. Croatia finished at the top of the group to secure an automatic spot in this year's finals. Slovenia finished fourth and failed to qualify for Qatar.

Coach Zlatko Dalić's team will now shift their focus on the match against Bulgaria on Tuesday at the same venue, Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan.

“We’re going to change out the team against Bulgaria and give every player a chance. Also, we’re going to continue with the 3-5-2 system,” Dalić said.

Although these are friendlies, Croatia needed at least one undecided result to be in the second strongest pot for the World Cup draw. The draw will take place on April 1.
