The third Croatian competing in the singles draws of this year’s French Open, Petra Martić, will open her run against the tournament's 32nd seed, American Shelby Rogers. That match is scheduled for 4:15 PM Central European Time on Tuesday.

Donna Vekić is through to the second round of the French Open, after beating Dayana Yastremska (WTA 158th) of Ukraine, 6:2, 7:5, today. The match lasted an hour and 26 minutes of play in the 1st round. Croatia’s top ranked player (WTA 22nd) made excellent use of the opportunities afforded her during the match, breaking her opponent's serve six times, failing to capitalize on only one break ball. Vekić herself faced six break balls, all in the second set, but managed to save three of those sets. The first set was a one-way affair from the outset, with Vekić breaking Yastremska's serve in the first game, and then again for score of 5:2, after which she calmly brought the set to a close. The 2nd set was less decisive with neither player managed to hold their serve in the first five games, resulting in a 3:2 lead for the Croatian. Vekić dropped her break advantage in the eighth game, but managed to hold on for the win. In the 2nd round she will play Croatian born American Bernarda Pera (WTA 32nd).

Meanwhile, in the men's draw, Borna Ćorić (ATP 16th) advanced to the second round after beating Argentina's Federico Coria (ATP 96th), 7:6, 6:7, 6:3, 6:3. He plays another Argentine, Pedro Cachin (ATP 64th), next on Thursday for a spot in the 3rd round of play.

In the doubles draw Croatia's Ivan Dodig and his American partner Austin Krajicek will face the Argentinian duo of Sebastian Baez and Guillermo Duran on Tuesday, while the 8th seeded team of Nikola Mektić and Mate Pavić will square off against the Belgian team of Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen on Wednesday.

The 2023 French Open is being played on the famed outdoor clay courts of the Stade Roland Garros in Paris from May 28th until June 11th. The defending and fourteen time champion in the men’s draw, Spaniard Rafael Nadal has withdrawn due to injury. In the women’s draw Poland’s Iga Świątek will be defending her title from last year.
