3 on 3 basketball in front of the Dubrovnik Cathedral

An international series of three-on-three basketball tournaments is being held in Dubrovnik. By mid-September, the tournaments will be held in nine other Croatian cities. It is interesting that this is a new Olympic sport, and the matches are played in attractive tourist locations.

3x3 basketball in front of the Dubrovnik Cathedral and the Rector's Palace delighted both foreign and domestic sports fans.

“We felt it is the right time to organize something like this, after exiting the Covid 19 situation, which did not suit anyone, we all wanted outdoor sports, a little fun and of course we took the opportunity, but we also took advantage of the fact that we have one sport that is currently the fastest growing sport in the world.

3x3 basketball is a new Olympic sport, first listed last summer in Tokyo and guaranteed status at the Paris and Los Angeles Olympics. Twelve teams are competing in Dubrovnik, not only from Croatia and neighboring countries, but also from all over the world,” pointed out Ivan Paić, a member of the PRO 3x3 Association.

I’ve been playing three on three basketball for six years. Our team represents India, although we have players from Canada, Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. We are very excited to play in Dubrovnik.

“This is a much more intense sport, so the game is harder, the game is harsher and I think that the preparations are totally different unlike basketball and you have to train in a special way,” says Krešimir Ivić from Šibenik.

Dubrovnik is only the first stop in the tournament, which was also supported by the Croatian Basketball Association. Matches will be played in nine other Croatian cities, also in interesting locations. The tournament ends in mid-September in Pula.
