Tourist numbers up significantly in January

According to the Croatian Tourist Board, a total of nearly 180,000 tourists visited Croatia in January this year, generating close to 600,000 overnight stays which, despite the surge in coronavirus infections, represents increases of 90% and 70% respectively compared to January 2021.

And when compared to January of the record-breaking 2019 season, the number of tourist arrivals was just 17 percent lower, but with nearly the same number of overnight stays.


And while Croatians made up more than 100,000 of those tourists, some 80,000 were foreigners - which is than 300% more compared to the same month last year.


In terms of destinations, Istria and Kvarner recorded the largest numbers of tourist arrivals and overnight stays in January this year.


Due in large part to the Snow Queen Trophy skiing competition, business conferences and similar events, Zagreb also a massive increase in tourism arrivals and overnight stays in January.
