There were more tourists in Croatia in the first eight months of this year and they stayed longer than in the comparable period in 2020, coming from more than 70 different countries.

According to the eVisitor data tracking service and the Croatian Tourist Board, once again the largest number of tourists came from Germany, both with regard to arrivals and overnight stays.

There were 2.1 million tourists from Germany, generating almost 16 million overnight stays or 23.3 percent of the total generated in the first eight months of the year. These are increases of 53 and 42 percent respectively compared with the same period in 2020. Compared with 2019, there were about 200,000 fewer arrivals from Germany and about one million fewer overnight stays.

The next most numerous tourists were Croatians, who generated 1.7 million arrivals and 10.1 million overnight stays. These are increases of nearly 32 and 10 percent respectively when compared to last year; but 100,000 arrivals and about 1 million overnight fewer than in 2019.

Of the ten markets that generated the most overnight stays, only Austria and Slovakia generated more than twice as many overnight stays compared to 2020, with Austrians accounting for 4.8 million overnight stays and the Slovaks for 2.2 million.

Croatia saw fewer tourists from far off locations such as Indonesia, Korea, China and Japan.
