SEC: Election campaign for run-off begins today

The State Election Commission (SEC) announced the official results of the presidential elections at a press conference.

The President of the Republic and the candidate of the SDP and its partners, Zoran Milanović, is the convincing winner of the first round. In the run-off, he will face the presidential candidate of the HDZ and its partners, Dragan Primorac. The run-off of the presidential elections will be held on January 12.


“The candidates entering the run-off of the elections are Zoran Milanović with 797,938 votes, which is 49.09%, and Dragan Primorac with 314,663 votes, which is 19.35%. A total of 1,625,458 voters or 46.03% voted. Of these, 1,606,213 were valid ballots, or 98.84%, while 18,786 were invalid ballots, or 1.16%,” said Damir Kontrec, the Vice President of the State Election Commission of the Republic of Croatia.


Turnout 46.03 percent


3,762,224 citizens had the right to vote in the first round, and 1,625,458 (46.03 percent) voted.


The election campaign of the candidates who entered the second round began today, and Milanović and Primorac and their teams can engage in it until midnight on January 10, and on Saturday, January 11, and on Election Day itself, Sunday, January 12, there is an election silence.


The Deputy President of the State Election Commission, Damir Kontrec, thanked the members of the polling stations for their work in the first election round, adding that they will be back in full operation in 13 days.


“The election campaign of the candidates who entered the run-off began today and will last until 10 January 2025 at midnight. The deadline for submitting complaints begins with the announcement of the results and lasts until Wednesday, 1 January at midnight. Complaints are submitted to the State Election Commission and must arrive by the deadline for submitting complaints. The complaint can be sent by e-mail, after which the State Election Commission has a deadline of 48 hours to decide on the complaint,” said Kontrec.


“A complainant has the right to file an appeal to the Constitutional Court against the State Election Commission's decision on the complaint, through the State Election Commission, within 48 hours, counting from the same day the contested decision was received,” he reported.
