Prime Minister Andrej Plenković spoke with Nathalie Loiseau, the French minister of European affairs, in Zagreb on Friday afternoon.

The two discussed the future of the European Union and the challenges ahead. A statement released by the government assessed the relations between Croatia and France to be very good. Also, the two countries are to intensify their bilateral dialogue to help Croatia better prepare for assuming the EU's rotating presidency in 2020.

Croatia's Foreign and European Affairs Minister Marija Pejčinović Burić agreed that the two countries had many common interests. Also, the signing of a Franco-Croat Action Plan is designed to revitalize their economic partnership.

For her part, Minister Loiseau gave her support to the Plenković government and their determination to implement key reforms - steps necessary towards joining the Schengen area and the eurozone. She also touched upon the upcoming meeting in Sofia regarding the integration of the countries of the Western Balkans.

Finally, Minister Loiseau welcomed Croatia's acceptance of an initiative spearheaded by French President Emmanuel Macron, whereby governments open the lines of communication with citizens to hear their expectations regarding the future of the European Union.
