While attending the 5th meeting of the Energy Transition Council in Vukovar on Friday, the Croatian President commented on the process of appointing a new Supreme Court President.

President Zoran Milanović had some curt words with regard to the process of appointing a new Supreme Court President on Friday, having officially submitted Zlata Đurđević as his candidate to parliament on Thursday: "In reality, according to the Croatian Constitution, the process only truly begins now, when the president sends his proposal to parliament, and one portion of the MPs in parliament will do everything to ensure that Mrs. Đurđević is not named president of the Supreme Court, but that instead the selection is made by the HDZ, but that won't fly either, so we'll see what happens going forward. It is possible that Croatia could go some time without a legitimate president of the Supreme Court."

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković had this to say about the process: "I saw that parliament adopted the item on its agenda today, the parliament speaker will decide when it will go to debate and be voted on, if the proposed candidate is not selected, then we will repeat the process and we will select someone else."

The president and prime minister have been at odds over the naming of a new President of the Supreme Court for months, with neither side looking ready to back down.
