Government signs development agreement with five northern counties

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and a delegation of cabinet ministers were in Varaždin on Monday for the signing of a 15 billion kuna development agreement for northern Croatia. 

The deal will ensure funding for 38 projects in Varaždin, Međimurje, Krapina-Zagorje, Bjelovar-Bilogora, and Koprivnica-Križevci counties.

Varaždin County Prefect Anđelko Stričak said the purpose of the agreement was for "the government and the county to agree upon the development priorities, the manner of cooperation and the sources of funding."

"The agreement raises the quality of life of our citizens in areas such as health, energy, security, digital society, tourism, creative society, cultural heritage, education, and regional infrastructure," said Stričak.

By signing this development agreement for the north of Croatia, we have given a common framework worth 15.2 billion kuna for various strategic projects," said Regional Development and EU Funds Minister Nataša Tramišak.

"Together with the five counties in northern Croatia we have defined clear strategic capital projects that should significantly increase the competitiveness and quality life of the inhabitants of this area," she added.

Prime Minister of Croatia Andrej Plenković the efficient use of state funds, EU funds, and funds provided by public enterprises, were the priority in the coming period. He said the development of these priority projects will greatly improve investments and the quality of life for citizens over the next few years.
