Today, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković chaired a meeting of the Government with prefects and representatives of the Association of Towns and the Croatian Association of Municipalities in Zaprešić.

This is the second such meeting - the first was held five years ago in Zagreb.

The topics of the meeting were the situation with the coronavirus pandemic and the role and obligations of local (regional) self-government in the civil protection system, drafting the state budget for 2022, preparations for the introduction of the euro as the official currency and opportunities offered by European funds in the financial period from 2021 to 2027.

“The topics we are opening today have a direct impact on the demographic picture of Croatia and that is why we must persistently approach their solution. I hope that, as before, all stakeholders in these processes will be open to dialogue and building an efficient system,” said Brod-Posavina County Prefect and President of the Croatian Association of Counties Danijel Marušić.

Plenković pointed out the successful process of preserving jobs as a key challenge.

“I think that as the Government we acted quickly, excellently, courageously, on time, and very generously in terms of supporting the private sector, workers, and those sectors that were endangered because of COVID, where we deviated from our main line that we followed from 2016 to 2020, and that is responsible management of public finances. And now we were responsible, but in a different way, we consciously went into deficit, but we distributed that money to those who needed it the most,” said Prime Minister Andrej Plenković.
