President Zoran Milanović and Prime Minister Andrej Plenković congratulated US President-elect Joe Biden on his election victory after the race was called by multiple US news outlets on Saturday.

“Congratulations to President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris! Croatian Government looks forward to working with you and your administration on strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing transatlantic partnership!” Prime Minister Plenković said in a tweet.

President Zoran Milanović extended his congratulations in a Facebook post.

“The trust of a record number of American voters in Joe Biden confirms that we must persevere in democracy even when it is being tested. I am sure that his victory will mean the renewal of the Euro-Atlantic partnership that was threatened and that Europe will again be the main ally of the United States,” Milanović wrote.

The President added that he believed that Croatia will have not only an ally but a friend in the US President-elect, especially since Joe Biden understands Croatia’s recent history well, which he said he had seen during very meaningful talks with him in the past.
