The 2021 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships are being held in in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. The championships began on February 8th and will last until February 21st.
Croatia's Filip Zubčić took the silver medal in the parallel giant slalom at the World Ski Championships underway in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. Frenchman Mathieu Faivre took the gold. Here's what Zubčić had to say after the race: "We really got off to a good start at this World Championships. Honestly it couldn't have gone any better. I wasn't really expecting much from the parallel today, because we didn't really focus on this race. But, I skied very well. Maybe my qualification runs were a little weak, but I'm really proud of myself and my entire team."
This is Croatia’s first medal at the World Ski Championships in eight years, when Ivica Kostelić took the silver medal in the Super Combined in Schladming, Austria. All told Croatia now has ten medals from the World Championships. Along with Zubčić’s silver medal on Tuesday, Janica Kostelić won 5 gold medals from 2003-2005, her brother Ivica took one gold in 2003, a bronze medal in 2011 and a silver medal in 2013, while Natko Zrnčić-Dim took a bronze medal in 2009.
