On Monday the Croatian will be looking to equal her career best result at a Grand Slam tournament and advance to the quarterfinals.
Croatia’s Donna Vekić (WTA - 33rd) has advanced to the 4th round of play at the Australian Open in Melbourne for the first time in her career, with a 5:7, 7:6 (2), 6:4 win over Kaia Kanepi of Estonia on Saturday.
This was their second meeting on the WTA tour, with the 24-year-old from Osijek registering her second win, after beating Kanepi in 2019 in the second round of the US Open. The 2019 US Open was the only time in her career that Vekić reached the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament. She can match that achievement on Monday, when she plays 25-year-old American Jennifer Brady (WTA - 24th), who reached the round of 16 with a 6:1, 6:3 win over Slovenian Kaja Juvan.
Vekić and Brady have played once before, on the clay courts in Rome in 2018, where she beat the American in three sets (3:6, 6:3, 6:1). By advancing to the 4th round of play, Brady has equaled her career best result in Melbourne, which she achieved in her debut in 2017. The American achieved her best ever result in a Grand Slam tournament at last year's US Open, where she reached the semifinals.
