The friendly against Turkey was to have been played in June, but was postponed indefinitely due to the coronavirus.
The Croatian Football Federation announced today that the national team will play a friendly against Turkey in Istanbul on November 11th. The match will be played in Ataturk Stadium. With a capacity of 76 000 it is the largest sports venue in Turkey.
Prior to the game against Turkey, Croatia will play four Nations League matches. The first two will be played in September, against Portugal in Porto on September 5th, and then in Paris on the 8th of September against France. The second two games will be played in October, against Sweden on the 11th and then a return match against France on the 14th. Coach Zlatko Dalić's team will also play a friendly against Switzerland on October 7th.
Dalić has said that the match will now serve as a warm-up for the team’s final two Nations League matches against Sweden on November 11th and against Portugal on the 17th.
Croatia and Turkey have met nine times, with Croatia winning three games, Turkey winning two and four draws. Perhaps the most memorable of those games was Croatia’s 1:nil win over Turkey at the 1996 European Championships, which was Croatia’s first appearance at a major tournament.
