Three Croatians played their 1st round matches at the first grand slam of the tennis season, the Australian Open, on Tuesday.
In first round action at the Australian Open Croatia's Borna Ćorić beat Argentina's Guido Pella 6:3, 7:6, 7:5, on Tuesday. He plays American Mackenzie McDonald (ranked 192nd on the ATP list) who beat Italian Marco Cecchinato 3:6, 6:3, 6:2, 6:2, to advance.
In the women's draw, Dona Vekić beat China's Yafan Wang 4:6, 6:3, 6:4. She will play Nadia Podoroska of Argentina for a place in the 3rd round. Petra Martić was less fortunate, losing to Serbia's Olga Danilović 7:5, 3:6, 6:4.
On Monday Marin Čilić made a 1st round exit after losing to Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets.
