Two of the best ranked Croatian tennis players, Borna Ćorić (ATP - 33rd) and Marin Čilić (ATP - 37th), have registered for the Western & Southern Open Masters 1000 Series tournament, which will not be held in Cincinnati this year, but in New York.
The list of registered tennis players is led by two of the best, Serbian Novak Djokovic and Spaniard Rafael Nadal, and only four of the first 40 players from the individual ATP rankings are missing: Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka of Switzerland, Gael Monfils of France and Italian Fabio Fognini.
If all entrants show up in New York, it is certain that they will also play in the US Open, which will start the week immediately after the Western & Southern Open.
Female players will also play in the tournament, which is scheduled for August 20-28, and Donna Vekić (WTA - 24th) is on the list of applicants, but not the best ranked Croatian player Petra Martić.
The list does not include the first two tennis players from the individual WTA rankings, Australian Ashleigh Barty and Romanian Simona Halep, and the list is led by the third and fourth players in the world, Czech Karolina Pliškova and American Sofia Kenin. Apart from Petra Martic, missing from the first 20 tennis players are: Ukrainian Eljina Svitoljina (WTA - 5th), Canadian Bianca Andreescu (WTA - 6th) and Japanese Naomi Osaka (WTA - 10th).
