Along with needing to collect ten thousand signatures to be able to run, all of the candidates will also have to adhere to the new law on financing political activities and election campaigns. Overall campaign spending has been limited to 8 million Kuna, with donations limited to 30 thousand Kuna from citizens and 200 thousand Kuna from companies.

"For each donation of more than 5000 Kuna the donor has to sign a contract with the candidate. For donations of 5000 Kuna and less the donor will be issued a receipt confirming that he or she donated the funds in question. The donor also has to provide proof that he or she does not have any outstanding debts towards the state or the tax office," says Vesna Fabijančić Križanić, the vice-president of the State Election Commission.
