The Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb has forwarded to state prosecutors 27 complaints from students alleging sexual abuse and harassment by teachers at the academy, some of the incidents going back decades.
Three women have come forward saying they are willing to talk to prosecutors. The rest of the complaints are anonymous, for now.
"These complaints concern 8 current employees and 6 former or retired employees of the Academy of Dramatic Arts. Now, it is up to the justice system to initiate their procedures, while we conduct our own internal investigation,” said Franka Perković Gamulin, the dean of the Academy. She also said that one current employee would not be allowed near students pending the outcome of the investigation.
"I think that tomorrow at the latest, we will bar one individual from working with students."
The spate of complaints alleging sexual abuse and sexual harassment made by current and former students of the Academy comes after a Serbian actress filed charges against a prominent drama professor and director in Belgrade, bringing the issue into the spotlight and encouraging dozens of women in the region to come forward with their own stories of sexual harassment in college and in the workplace.
