Halting the pandemic was discussed today at a meeting of the European Council, which was also attended by Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković. One of the main topics was digital green certificates, which should again allow free movement within the European Union.

They will exist in the form of QR codes on smartphones or on paper, and with their help it will be possible to determine whether a person has been vaccinated, negative or has overcome COVID and acquired immunity.

“We had only two topics: the fight against covid-19, and the other related to climate change,” said Prime Minister Andrej Plenković after the summit.

“Regarding the first topic, the President of the European Commission gave a complete picture of the situation, especially when it comes to orders and deliveries of vaccines, how the distribution in the member states is going. We also talked about the covid-19 digital certificate, which should facilitate the movement of people during the summer, during the tourist season. This is especially important for Croatia and other countries that are destination countries,” noted Plenković.

He added that the digital covid certificate is not a document that will be used to cross the border, but it will enable faster flow, faster entry and a safer stay in a country.

“There was also talk about how to take care of vaccine orders for next year, taking into account how tests are done on vaccinating minors, people who are not the target group today with these doses we have, and how to provide the best possible health care , financial support to member states as well as donation of vaccines by the EU globally through Covax,” explained the Prime Minister.

“As for Croatia, I reported that the dynamics we have now are accelerated, we have more vaccines, faster vaccinations, and that the number of newly infected is smaller and that the epidemic is subsiding. These are two very good trends that we should maintain at all costs and in the interest of health care, the economy, tourism and financial stability,” he added.
